“GLAMOUR AND GUTS: A TOAST FOR THE AGES”
GLBT Historical Society Party Celebrates Queer Gender Diversity

SAN FRANCISCO—On Tuesday, April 25, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society will throw “Glamour and Guts,” a party to celebrate the gender diversity in San Francisco’s rich GLBT history. The event, being held at Mecca in the Castro, will feature an exhibit of rare female and male impersonator photos from the 1940s through the 1960s as well as a signature drink, the “Compton-politan.” This special cocktail honors the fighting t-girls, hair fairies, hustlers, and street queens that sparked a queer riot in San Francisco in 1966—three years before the famous Stonewall Riots in New York. At the party the GLBT Historical Society will also lend support to the events celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot.

“Glamour and Guts is going to be one fabulous happy hour,” said GLBT Historical Society Executive Director Terence Kissack. “The GLBT Historical Society is proud of our tradition preserving and supporting the very queer history of gender diversity.  We’re pulling out treasures from the archives and inviting the entire community to raise a glass to our collective fierce courage.”

During “Glamour and Guts” part of the proceeds from the marvelously tasty Compton-politan will go to GLBT Historical Society.  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served.  The event is free and open to the public.
